Artist Statement

This is a sculpture that depicts a cute teddy bear with the bends and contorts of iron wire. When I first arrived to college this was actually my first ever assignment in my 3D Design class. Purchase a stuffed animal and then use wire from a spool to convincingly recreate it. Needless to say, as an artist that mostly creates within the confines of the two-dimensional realm— this project was quite a challenging endeavor. But challenges are good for artists. It allows us to think of solutions for problems we never knew existed and see the world through a brand new lens. Personally, I learned a lot from constructing this sculpture and have gained a deeper appreciation for art that actually exists in the world rather than creates illusions of it. I know I certainly look forward to creating even more challenging sculptures in the future.
