Artist Statement

All meaningful change starts small. Unfortunately, Oftentimes society glorifies the most prodigious or wide reaching actions that fight against inequality while more smaller, subtler actions go unnoticed. This is not right to me, and this graphite realism piece is my way to finally put small actions of change at the forefront. This piece beautifully depicts two hands (one white, one black) joining together as one. It represents the small actions we all could take to set aside our differences and unite on the basis of a shared existence rather than arbitrary descriptors like skin color. Yes, the action is indeed small but if we all embraced preforming these small actions of change, I truly believe it will eventually change our entire world for the better.
