Artist Statement

This drawing is a shading study I did of two crumpled pieces of paper. My task was to render both of them with only hatching and cross-hatching. I enjoyed this assignment because it helped me realize the importance of stepping away from my work to see how the subjects truly looked. Drawing studys usually don’t have a name but I decided to name this one “The Creature and the Portal.” I obviously entitled it that because the left paper appears to habve a head and a tail like an animal and the right paper looks like a portal to another dimension. However, I’ll let you as the viewer make the final decision on the resembelence.
