Artist Statement

Liquid Vanity. This piece is an ornate and very detailed depiction of lustrous and ornate objects that (in my eyes) promote a shallow sense of vanity in those that choose to indulge in them. Think about it. We wear shiny jewelry of precious metals believing that it would make our own selves more precious. We collect luxurious items to put up a pretty facade to onlookers. Then we also spray synthetic fragrances on ourselves to cover up the natural scents of our imperfect human bodies. Considering the lengths we go to escape our imperfections one must ponder of the true nature of humanity itself. Maybe what makes us human is our desire to be anything but.
